Description

The Health Literacy Group UK invites you to join us for this free one-day seminar where we will focus on the research priorities identified in our last seminar - Strategic approaches to Health Literacy – and possible sources of funding.

Health literacy is defined as ‘the cognitive and social skills which determine the motivation and ability of individuals to gain access to, understand, and use information in ways which promote and maintain good health’.

This seminar is central to the aims of the Health Literacy Group (UK):

1.
To build a ‘critical mass’ of stakeholders interested in Health Literacy (HL) research in the UK.
2. To share skills, experience and ideas.
3. To develop the evidence base for Health Literacy.

It will help set the agenda for the work and direction of the group in the coming year.

What will happen at the seminar?

>We will summarise the types of evidence policy makers need to set their priorities as outlined in our previous seminar and the research ideas that emerged.

>Funding bodies will be invited to tell us about their funding priorities and the types of projects or programmes they might be interested in funding.

>We will pool ideas on other sources of funding and successful approaches to funders

>There will be an opportunity for members to display   information about the kind of interventions that have made a difference

Invitation to submit abstracts for posters/summaries.
Please note that the deadline for submitting abstracts for this seminar has now passed and so is now CLOSED.
If your abstract/summary is accepted you will be able to resubmit your abstract for the HL conference to be held at Southampton University in May, 2012

Who might attend?
Anyone with an interest in developing the evidence base for the importance of health literacy in improving patients’ access, understanding and use of health care services. This will include researchers and PhD students working in this or related fields, and health and educational professionals interested in developing and piloting interventions to raise the level of health literacy to support the health and well-being of different groups.
